The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has omitted former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami from the final list of cleared governorship candidates for Gombe State’s February 6, 2027 election.
Pantami’s name appeared on the provisional candidate list released by INEC on August 29, but the updated roster of 16 candidates does not include him. A similar discrepancy has been reported in Ogun State, where the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and his running mate are also absent from INEC’s final list for that state.
In Gombe, the confirmed candidates include Bala Bello Tinka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Babayo Ardo Kumo of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
- Zubairu Mu’azu Halilu – Labour Party
- Lamela L. Silas – Allied Peoples Movement (APM)
- Ibrahim Jalo Abubakar – Peoples Redemption Party (PRP)
- Adamu Mohammed Ma’aji – Social Democratic Party (SDP)
- Other candidates – various parties (totaling 16 cleared contenders)
INEC’s final list is expected to guide the upcoming gubernatorial race in Gombe, with further details on the omissions and the full slate of candidates to be released in due course.
