Armed bandits stormed the Aujarawar Alkali community in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State and abducted its traditional ruler, Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, known locally as Ruwata Midnight, during a late‑night raid on Thursday, 17 September 2026.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers entered the village with sophisticated weapons and seized the monarch before fleeing with him to an unknown destination. The raid has left residents in a state of fear and uncertainty, with families and community leaders expressing deep concern for the safety of the abducted head.
The incident was confirmed on Friday by Mahi Ismail, spokesperson to the Zannan Kano and the District Head of Jogana. In a statement, Ismail described the attack as a threat to the peace of the area and highlighted the urgent need for a swift response.
“We appeal to security operatives to strengthen the protection of lives and property and do everything possible to ensure the safe return of our village head,” said District Head Alhaji Abdulkadir Ma’aji. “I also urge residents to remain calm and law‑abiding while supporting ongoing security efforts through vigilance and cooperation with relevant authorities.”
Ma’aji called on the public to pray for the safe release of Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, expressing hope that the abducted monarch would soon reunite with his family and the people of Aujarawar Alkali. The Kano Police Command has yet to issue a statement or reaction to the incident.
