Achraf Hakimi, the right‑back for Paris Saint‑Germain and captain of the Moroccan national team, is a strong contender for the 2026 CAF African Player of the Year award.
The 2025‑26 season has seen Hakimi perform at an exceptional level, cementing his status as one of the continent’s premier footballers.
In 2025 he was named CAF African Player of the Year after finishing a historic sixth place in that year’s Ballon d’Or. The accolade confirmed his regular presence at the highest level of the sport.
His 13th place finish in the 2026 Ballon d’Or made him the first African to appear in the world ranking that year and the only player from the continent to be in the top tier for two consecutive years.
Such consistency places Hakimi among the greats of African football, a player who has moved beyond being the best at his position to becoming a legend of the game.
With his continued form for both club and country, the Moroccan captain’s campaign for the 2026 African Player of the Year award looks well within reach.
