Tomorrow, September 27, the world will observe the 2026 World Tourism Day (WTD) with a focus on how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the industry. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) has chosen the theme “Digital agenda and artificial intelligence to redesign tourism” to highlight AI’s potential to drive smarter, more inclusive and sustainable travel.
UN Tourism explained that tourism has historically evolved through innovation and that AI is poised to become the next major catalyst for change. The organisation plans to use the day to explore how AI can improve decision‑making, strengthen skills, and enhance the experience and management of destinations.
The 2026 WTD will be hosted in El Salvador, where participants will discuss AI‑powered education and skill development. Delegates will also hear perspectives from El Salvador and the Commission for Africa (CAF) on how innovation, public policy and partnerships can translate digital transformation into meaningful human impact.
As the global tourism community prepares to mark the day, the emphasis on AI underscores a broader shift toward technology‑driven solutions that aim to make travel more efficient, accessible and environmentally responsible.
