Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the Alliance for Change (AAC), claimed that he was attacked by a group of roughly twenty armed men in Ado‑Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, earlier this week.

According to Sowore, the men entered his vehicle and beat him, threatening to kill him before forcing him to flee the scene. He said the assault took place in the city’s commercial district, where he had been campaigning for the upcoming national elections.

“I was struck and threatened with death,” Sowore told reporters. “The attackers were armed and appeared to be organised. I was forced to leave the area in fear for my life.”

The incident comes amid a tense political climate in southwestern Nigeria, where candidates from opposition parties have reported intimidation and violence ahead of the presidential polls. Sowore’s account adds to growing concerns about the safety of political figures in the region.

While the AAC has not yet released an official statement, the party’s spokesperson confirmed that Sowore is receiving medical attention and that the party will cooperate with authorities to investigate the attack.
