Electricity supply to Arepo, a rapidly expanding community in the Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been disrupted after a shattered insulator at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) caused a fault at the end of the transmission network. The outage was reported on Monday, prompting the Arepo Area Community Development Council (AACDC) Electricity Committee to seek urgent repairs before Ikeja Electric (IE) can restore power.
Akinlolu Akinpelumi, secretary of the AACDC Electricity Committee, confirmed in a statement that TCN’s maintenance crew is currently attending to the fault. “The fault, reportedly caused by a shattered insulator, is currently being attended to by the TCN Maintenance Crew,” he said, adding that repair work is already in progress.
Akinpelumi expressed optimism that the engineers would resolve the issue promptly, enabling IE to resume electricity supply. “We have been informed that repair work is ongoing. We can only hope that the TCN engineers will be able to resolve the fault in good time so that IE can restore power to our community,” he said.
The committee pledged to keep monitoring the situation and to keep residents informed. “Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the situation and follow up until supply is restored. As soon as we receive any further update, we will not hesitate to communicate it,” Akinpelumi added.
This outage follows a series of longstanding complaints from Arepo residents about frequent power interruptions and prolonged blackouts. Community members have previously warned of inadequate electricity supply, noting that the area receives barely two hours of power daily despite being upgraded to Band B under the service‑based tariff regime, and some have even threatened legal action over the persistent shortages.
