An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer has been charged after a vehicle he was driving struck a man who was fleeing on a Houston street on Oct. 10. The Harris County District Attorney’s office identified the officer as Mario Alberto Morales.
According to the district attorney, Morales was behind the wheel of an unmarked black vehicle when it hit Miguel Parra Hernandez, a 48‑year‑old man who was running away at the time of the collision.
Morales now faces criminal charges filed by Harris County prosecutors, though the specific counts have not been detailed in the public filing. The incident occurred in Houston, Texas, within Harris County jurisdiction.
ICE is a federal law‑enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security that focuses on immigration enforcement and related investigations. Officers, like Morales, are authorized to carry out duties that can involve both investigative work and, in some cases, vehicle patrols.
The district attorney’s office said the case will proceed through the criminal justice system, and no further statements have been released by either the agency or the victim’s family at this time.
