The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has pledged to support infrastructure development and educational programmes in schools across Oyo town.
Oba Akeem Owoade is the traditional monarch of the historic Yoruba kingdom of Oyo, a cultural and political centre in southwestern Nigeria. The Alaafin’s role traditionally includes safeguarding the welfare of his subjects and promoting the development of the region.
In his recent statement, the Alaafin affirmed his intention to mobilise resources for the improvement of school facilities and to back initiatives that enhance learning outcomes for students in Oyo town.
The pledge comes at a time when Nigeria’s education sector is seeking greater investment to address gaps in infrastructure, teacher training and learning resources, especially in the northern and western states.
By committing to these efforts, the Alaafin aims to complement governmental and private‑sector programmes aimed at raising the standard of education and supporting broader infrastructure growth in the region.
