On Thursday, a cross‑party delegation arrived in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, to offer condolences to the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, after the death of his aunt, Hajia Rukiya Jibril.
The Federal Government’s delegation was led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, who carried a personal message of sympathy from President Bola Tinubu. Akume reminded the family that, in Islamic belief, death is a return to God and urged them to find strength in the knowledge that their loved one had completed her earthly duty.
Representing the ruling party, the delegation also included Niger State Governor Umar Bago, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, former Imo State Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha and former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. From the opposition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) sent former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Senator Abdul Ningi, while the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was represented by Senator Tony Nwoye.
Yari, visibly moved, thanked President Tinubu for the personal solidarity and praised the delegation for travelling to Talata Mafara rather than sending remote condolences. He described the visit as a source of comfort and strength for his family, offering prayers for the delegation and the Tinubu administration, and asked Nigerians to remember his late aunt in their prayers.
“The visit has brought us great comfort and strength,” Yari said. “I ask all Nigerians to keep my aunt in their prayers.”
The gathering highlighted a rare moment of cross‑party unity in mourning, with leaders from the APC, ADC and NDC converging to support a fellow politician during a personal loss.
