The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NHSA) has issued a high flood risk alert for 15 states, effective from 19 September to 25 September. The warning covers major regions including Lagos, Rivers, Imo and Kogi, among others.
The alert follows a forecast of heavy rainfall across the country, with the NHSA urging residents and local authorities in the affected states to prepare for possible flooding and to take precautionary measures.
While the agency did not list all 15 states in the brief, it highlighted the four mentioned as particularly vulnerable due to their low-lying topography and recent weather patterns.
Local governments in the warned states are advised to review emergency plans, clear drainage channels and keep residents informed of any changes in weather conditions.
Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to stay updated through official NHSA communications and to heed any additional advisories issued during the high‑risk period.
