The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, announced on Thursday that the Idu Industrial Area in Abuja will soon experience a consistent 24-hour electricity supply through a 50-megawatt mini-grid initiative.
Speaking at an event in Abuja, Tegbe highlighted that the Federal Government is currently conducting comprehensive technical audits across significant industrial corridors nationwide, prioritizing the Lagos industrial axis, the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, and the Enugu-Onitsha axis.
He revealed that the first phase of the Idu industrial electrification project is expected to deliver 10 megawatts by December 2026, with the remaining 40 megawatts to be rolled out in 2027. "We need to ensure the transmission happens. And then even distribution," Tegbe emphasized.
On his part, the Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, emphasized that the government's broader industrial strategy revolves around promoting local production, value addition, economic diversification, and integrating Nigerian industries into global markets.
"When you produce locally, you contribute to job creation and provide our abundant youth with a pathway for employment," Owan Enoh stated.
