Niger Delta elders, acting through the Pan‑Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), announced on Tuesday in Abuja that the group will not endorse any presidential candidate for Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

Speaking after a key meeting of South‑South stakeholders, PANDEF’s National Chairman Godknows Igala and the chairman of its Board of Trustees, former Akwa Ibom State governor Obong Victor Attah, emphasized that the forum remains “non‑partisan” and will not align itself with any political party or candidate.

“We are non‑partisan. We, therefore, call on the people of the South‑South to exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully and vote according to their conscience, choosing candidates at all levels whose programmes, commitments, and demonstrated capacity align with the aspirations of the Niger Delta,” Igala said.

Igala added that PANDEF is not a support group for any party and will not pressure residents of the region to back a particular contender, urging voters to select candidates who can deliver “dividends of democracy” to the South‑South.

The Niger Delta, an oil‑rich region in southern Nigeria, has long been a focal point of political and economic discussions, and PANDEF’s decision underscores its intent to stay out of partisan contests while encouraging peaceful, informed voting.
