In 2027, Mr Shettima said the Tinubu administration is turning Nigeria’s regions into economic powerhouses as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies its campaign in Nasarawa state. He highlighted the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway as a flagship project of the government’s infrastructure push.
The proposed superhighway will link the towns of Akwanga, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Biu and Maiduguri, creating a continuous road corridor across the North‑Central and North‑Eastern zones of the country. Mr Shettima described the route as a “major component of the administration’s infrastructure development agenda.”
According to Shettima, the highway is expected to strengthen economic connections between the North‑Central and North‑Eastern regions, facilitating the movement of goods, services and people. He said the improved connectivity will help unlock the commercial potential of these areas.
The remarks came as the APC ramps up its political outreach ahead of upcoming elections in Nasarawa, a central Nigerian state that has become a focal point for party activities. The party’s campaign efforts are aimed at consolidating support by showcasing development projects such as the superhighway.
Infrastructure development has been a central theme of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which has pledged to boost regional economies through large‑scale projects. The superhighway, if completed, would exemplify that strategy by linking key economic zones and fostering growth across the northern part of the country.
