Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has warned Nigerians not to vote for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running‑mate Rabiu Kwankwaso in the 2027 election, claiming the duo are working for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adeyanju posted the remarks on X, saying, “Peter Obi and Kwankwaso are working for Tinubu like they did in 2023. Don’t waste your votes again on them like 2023. A vote for them is a vote for Bola Tinubu and the APC. They know exactly what they are doing.”
In 2023, Obi stood as the Labour Party’s flag‑bearer and Kwankwaso ran under the New Nigeria Peoples Party. Both were seen as alternatives to the APC, but the election was won by Tinubu, with Obi finishing third behind the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar. Adeyanju’s claim therefore contrasts with the fact that the two candidates were not aligned with the APC in that election.
Obi has publicly denied any disrespect towards Tinubu. Speaking in Enugu, he said, “I’ve never abused anybody. Who has seen me calling President Tinubu’s name? Never! I will not do that. He’s the President of the country, he has all my respect.”
While Adeyanju urges voters to reject Obi and Kwankwaso on the grounds that their votes would benefit Tinubu, the candidates remain distinct from the APC in their party affiliations. The 2027 election will therefore see the same political dynamics as in 2023, with the Labour Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party presenting separate platforms from the ruling party.
