The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned state executive committees not to engage non‑party members as polling agents for the 2027 general elections, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) launch of an online portal for parties to submit polling agent details.
INEC’s portal, which is now open to all registered political parties, requires the submission of names, contact information and other relevant details for each polling agent who will be present at polling stations during the upcoming elections.
In a statement to the press, the PDP cautioned state executives that polling agents must be members of the party or its affiliates, in line with the commission’s rules on the composition of electoral staff. The party’s warning is aimed at ensuring that all agents meet the eligibility criteria set by INEC.
State executives across the country will need to review the portal’s requirements carefully to avoid any disqualification of agents or potential electoral disputes. The PDP’s message comes as part of a broader effort by parties to comply with INEC’s procedural guidelines ahead of the 2027 elections.
