Buba Galadima, the chief of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), told Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday that the result of the 2027 presidential election is known only to God and President Bola Tinubu. The NDC leader said he is confident that the opposition ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will win if the vote is conducted freely, fairly and credibly.
“Only God and Tinubu knows what will happen in this election,” Galadima said, alleging that the opposition has faced coordinated attacks. He added that the Obi‑Kwankwaso combination would prevail unless a “machinery” were able to take it away.
Galadima dismissed rumours of divisions within the NDC, insisting that the party’s leading figures remain united. “They are on the same page, they are close to each other, every minute, every hour, everyday and every hour of the calendar,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the ticket’s appeal in the North, the NDC chieftain highlighted the experience of the candidates and the party’s intent to field a single, cohesive ticket. “We are running a single ticket of prominent, experienced Nigerians; this is our game,” he said, noting that the combination is a “healing ticket” that bridges political and regional interests.
Galadima also questioned promises to restore fuel subsidies, urging voters to scrutinise the backgrounds of those making such pledges. “If someone tells you I will restore subsidy, will you just believe him without looking at his background?” he asked.
He criticised the Tinubu administration for continued subsidy‑related expenditure, challenging the government to explain its “Energy Security Expenses”. “Obi and Kwakwanso are populist politicians who are for the people; Tinubu put us in this trouble. Do you know that, as at now even the president pays subsidies called Energy security expenses, you should call him to explain what it means…all these are fraud,” Galadima said.
