The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally disowned a Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) that was announced by the OK Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections. The repudiation was issued in a statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Cleopas Moses, on Saturday.
According to the statement, an announcement made by John Ugulu – claiming to set up a PCC under the OK Movement’s “guise” – was not authorised by the NDC. Moses said the publication “did not emanate from the party” and should be ignored by both the public and the media.
The party stressed that any campaign structure or organ bearing the NDC name must receive prior approval from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). “Only the party’s leadership can constitute and announce a PCC,” the statement read, underscoring the NDC’s internal governance rules.
“The leadership of our party, the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, has noted with concern a publication credited to one John Ugulu, announcing a Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, under the guise of the OK Movement. For the avoidance of doubt, the party wishes to state categorically as follows: The party hereby dissociates itself in totality from the said OK Movement PCC announcement. It did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded by the public and the media.”
Moses added that all NDC candidates remain “products of the party” and are subject to its authority and discipline, rejecting any notion that they are running as independents. While the NDC welcomes support groups that share its mission to “rescue Nigeria,” it warned that such groups must not present themselves as alternative or parallel party structures.
