2027: Group alleges midnight voter accreditation in Ideato, front-loading of BVAS devices

A political watchdog group, the Ideato Progressive Alliance (IPA), has raised alarm over allegations of an unauthorized midnight voter accreditation exercise in Ideato North and Ideato South local government areas of Imo State, Nigeria.

The group, which is based in Ideato North Local Government Area, claims to have obtained video evidence of the alleged midnight operation involving four vehicles.

IPA President, Mr. Ferdinand Nwosu, stated that the group has been following the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ideato North and Ideato South LGAs.

He alleged that the individuals involved in the operation are using the Biometric Voter Authentication System (BVAS) devices, which are intended to be used during the 2027 general elections.

The group has demanded that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, should order an immediate investigation into the matter.

IPA also called on the security agencies to identify and apprehend those involved in the alleged midnight operation, which it claimed was aimed at manipulating the BVAS devices to front-load the results of the election before it takes place.

The group has also requested that the security agencies should preserve all evidence and ensure that those responsible are brought to book.

The group has warned that the alleged midnight operation was capable of undermining the credibility of the 2027 general elections in Ideato North and Ideato South LGAs.

IPA President, Mr. Ferdinand Nwosu, said:

"We are appealing to the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies to act swiftly to prevent the manipulation of the BVAS devices and ensure that the 2027 general elections remain credible."

The group has also called on the federal government to take necessary steps to prevent any attempt to manipulate the electoral process in the LGA's.

The IPA has vowed to continue to monitor INEC activities in the area and expose any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.
