Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reveal the names of the companies that will print ballot papers for the 2027 elections. The former national leader said that the lack of transparency in the printing contracts could erode public confidence in the forthcoming polls.

Atiku, who served as Vice‑President from 1999 to 2007, criticised INEC for keeping the identities of the printing firms and the terms of their contracts undisclosed. He warned that “opaque contracts and key departmental redeployments could undermine confidence in the polls.”

INEC is responsible for organising Nigeria’s national elections, including the preparation of ballot papers, voter registration and the conduct of the vote. The commission has not yet announced which suppliers will be used for the 2027 election cycle.

By calling for disclosure, Atiku is echoing concerns raised by other opposition figures about the integrity of the electoral process. The call comes as the country prepares to schedule the next presidential and parliamentary elections.

Atiku’s demand highlights the broader debate over transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s electoral system, a topic that has attracted attention from civil society groups and international observers alike.
