The All Progressives Congress (APC) officially launched its 2027 election campaign in Enugu State on Wednesday, holding the flag‑off at Nsukka Township Stadium. Party leaders and supporters gathered to pledge mobilisation of voters for the re‑election of Governor Peter Mbah and for President Bola Tinubu.

The event drew a large crowd that included APC officials, traditional and community leaders, and supporters from all three senatorial districts. Speakers described the turnout as evidence of the party’s political strength in Enugu and stressed the APC’s determination to consolidate its presence and secure victories for all its candidates.

Governor Mbah used the occasion to review his administration’s achievements. He highlighted investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development, and urged voters to judge his government by the projects completed. He noted that the opposition had not presented a manifesto.

He detailed major road works, saying the dualisation of the Penoks–T‑Junction–Ugwogo‑Opi‑Nsukka road had cut travel time dramatically. “I left the office a few minutes past 1 pm. It took me two to three minutes to get to T‑Junction from Penoks,” he said. He also cited the 40 km Owo‑Ubahu‑Amankanu‑Umualor‑Ikem virgin dual carriageway, which now links northern communities to the North Central region, and reiterated the state’s 10,000‑kilometre road construction target.

“We are not measured by our words; we are measured by our results. What we commit to, we deliver,” Governor Mbah added.

In education, the Smart Green Schools initiative has recruited over 6,000 teachers who are being trained at the state’s Centre for Experiential Learning and Innovation, shifting the focus from memorisation to critical thinking and innovation. The health sector has seen the construction of Type‑2 Primary Healthcare Centres in all 260 electoral wards, each equipped with staff and a two‑bedroom residential unit.

The governor also highlighted economic projects such as the reopening of the Presidential Hotel, International Conference Centre, United Farm Products Limited, Songhai Enugu Integrated Farm and Sunrise Rice Flour Mill. He announced that Enugu Air will soon offer direct flights to London, the United States and China, signalling the state’s readiness to attract investment and tourism. He praised federal interventions in the South‑East, including the South East Development Commission, regional gas pipeline projects and the appointment of local indigenes to key positions, such as the Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Nigeria.

Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai said the forthcoming elections offered the people an opportunity to sustain the development gains achieved under the current administration.
