At about 6:30 a.m. on 5 November, 14‑year‑old Amina Ya’u was shot after suspected armed herders opened fire on farmers in Majelisa village, a community that straddles the border between Nasarawa and Plateau states in north‑central Nigeria.

Security sources told the counter‑insurgency publication Zagazola Makama that troops from Sector 9 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), stationed at Jenta, responded to a distress call and reached the scene. The soldiers found the teenage girl with gunshot wounds; the alleged attackers had fled before their arrival.

The injured girl was evacuated to the General Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for medical treatment. Preliminary investigations suggested the violence stemmed from a disagreement over grazing activities.

“Preliminary investigations indicated that a group of armed herders allegedly opened fire on farmers following a disagreement over grazing activities,” the report stated.

Authorities are in ongoing talks with Fulani leaders to help identify and locate the suspects, while security forces have intensified patrols and increased their presence in the area to deter further clashes. The incident adds to a series of recent attacks in Nigeria’s north‑central region, where long‑standing herder‑farmer disputes over land use have repeatedly resulted in fatalities, farmland damage and loss of livestock.
