Cameron Young secured the first singles point for Team USA in the Presidents Cup after defeating Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune 3&2 on the 16th hole.
The match, part of the biennial competition between the United States and an International team, saw Young close out the contest with a birdie on the 16th, leaving Hisatsune two holes behind with only two to play.
Young’s victory gives the U.S. side a crucial early advantage in the singles phase, where each match counts for one point toward the final team total.
Hisatsune, a seasoned player on the Japan Golf Tour, had been in contention until the 16th, but could not recover from the deficit created by Young’s decisive play.
With this win, Team USA now holds the lead in the singles matches, setting the tone for the remaining contests in the Presidents Cup.
