The Bauchi State Police Command announced on Wednesday that four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of 45‑year‑old Garba Abdullahi in Gadau Local Government Area. Abdullahi, a resident of Dunari village in Atahowa District, was attacked on Tuesday, 22 September, after being accused of causing a woman’s illness through witchcraft.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib, the assault occurred at about 11:40 a.m. while Abdullahi was returning from his farm. The suspects allegedly stabbed and cut him with machetes, leaving him unconscious. He was rushed to General Hospital in Azare, where a doctor confirmed his death. His body was later released to relatives for burial.
The four individuals detained for the killing are identified as Shitu Dahiru, 25; Magaji Dahiru, 42; Sabi’u Auwalu, 20; and Abbah Abdulzahar, 19. Their arrests followed an intelligence‑led operation by police officers in the state command.
In a separate operation on 21 September, police intercepted a black Sharon Wagon (registration WKA 805) near Sharfolli village, Atafowa District, after receiving intelligence that it was being used to transport illicit drugs. Two suspects, Shu’aibu Umar, 35, and Isah Ibrahim, 20, both from Atafowa village, were found with 69 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed in bags of groundnuts.
Both the murder case and the drug seizure have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for discreet investigation and prosecution.
“No individual has the right to take another person’s life under any guise,” Commissioner of Police CP Sani‑Omolori Aliyu said, condemning the rise of “jungle justice” and urging residents to rely on law enforcement rather than superstitious self‑help.
