Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola on Wednesday rejected claims that Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike is his leader in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the relationship instead as a “boy‑mentor” one.

Speaking to Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oyinlola said he remains a member of the PDP but that Wike “is not my leader” and would never occupy that role for him.

He recalled that while he was governor of Osun State, Wike was still in school, adding, “He’s my boy,” and argued that age, experience and political history do not place Wike above him within the party hierarchy.

“Nobody has invited me to any rainbow coalition. I don’t know the meaning of rainbow except the one I know. He is not my leader. You don’t say that kind of thing,” Oyinlola said.

Oyinlola emphasized his own seniority, noting that he entered politics long ago and had already attained the highest positions in the PDP and government before Wike rose to prominence. The PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, continues to host a range of senior figures from different regions and generations.
