In a televised monthly media chat in Abuja on Thursday, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike addressed rumours that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political future had been jeopardised by a prolonged dispute with his predecessor.

Wike dismissed the claims, saying that Fubara is still a “very young man” and that it would be “incorrect to say that his political future is gone.” He added that the governor’s prospects cannot be judged solely on past events in the state.

He also highlighted Fubara’s active role in the Rainbow Coalition, a multi‑party group backing President Bola Tinubu’s re‑election. “Governor Fubara is a young man. It will be incorrect to say that his political future is gone,” Wike said, noting that Fubara was the one who unveiled the coalition’s candidates in Rivers State.

According to the Daily Post, Fubara reconciled with Wike in May, a move that reportedly forced him to abandon his re‑election bid. The reconciliation came amid a broader crisis that had seen the governor and his predecessor at odds over control of the state’s political machinery.

Rivers State, located in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, has long been a focal point of political contention. The governor’s future, however, remains uncertain as he continues to navigate the complex dynamics of state and national politics.
