Why I refused to join APC – Seriake Dickson

National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has explained his decision not to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he did not wish to support a political arrangement that could lead to Nigeria becoming a one-party state.

Dickson, who is also a former Bayelsa State governor, spoke with the Leadership Newspaper team on Thursday. He mentioned that the crisis and decline within his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), influenced his choice to establish a new political platform.

"I did not believe Nigeria should become a one-party state," Dickson said, attributing his choice to preserve political competition and provide Nigerians with another platform to participate in the democratic process.

Instead of joining an existing party, Dickson and his political associates opted to build a new organization that could compete with the ruling party. He added that the NDC has made considerable progress since its emergence.

"Months down the line, we have built a formidable party and a major opposition platform in Nigeria," he concluded.
