Carl Skau, the acting director of the World Food Programme (WFP), has discussed the organization’s urgent mission to address global hunger amid ongoing wars and climate disasters. The incoming executive director, Luke Lindberg, previously served as an official in the Agriculture Department under the Trump administration. He now steps into a role widely regarded as one of the most challenging within the United Nations, tasked with managing a massive global food security crisis.
According to the WFP, hundreds of millions of people around the world go hungry every day. Reaching as many of these individuals as possible with food aid is described as a monumental task that requires extensive logistical coordination and resources.
Skau emphasized the complexity of the agency’s work, noting that the current landscape is defined by simultaneous conflicts and severe weather events. These dual pressures exacerbate food insecurity, making the delivery of aid more difficult and urgent than in previous years.
