On Friday, the Lagos State Police Command announced that it had begun disciplinary proceedings against Inspector Osumah Frank after a video of the officer making controversial remarks in a public vehicle went viral.
In the clip, Frank, wearing his police uniform, was heard commenting on Igbo people and dissecting the political ambitions of 2027 Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi. He also made remarks about President Bola Tinubu and former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that police officers could be bribed to undermine a political candidate’s electoral prospects.
“The Inspector of Police who appeared in the viral video making careless, inappropriate and uncultured remarks while travelling in public transport has been identified as INSP. Osumah Frank,” the command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said. “The statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.”
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai stressed that all personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times. He added that wearing the police uniform carries a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the force and that the command would not tolerate conduct that could bring the force into disrepute or undermine public confidence.
In line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force, the command reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity as it proceeds with the disciplinary action.
