UN Receives Just One-Fifth of Funds Needed for El Niño Crisis Preparedness
The United Nations (UN) has revealed that it has secured only one-fifth of the required funds to effectively address food crises resulting from the ongoing El Niño weather phenomenon in Africa.

El Niño is having a severe impact on agriculture and livelihoods in affected regions. Drought conditions have led to reduced crop yields, exacerbating food insecurity and threatening the livelihoods of millions of people.

Africa is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate-related disasters due to its dependence on agriculture and its limited resources to cope with extreme weather events.
"African countries are highly susceptible to the impacts of climate-related disasters, particularly due to their reliance on agriculture and limited resources to tackle extreme weather events," noted Dr. Maria Helena Semedo.
