The United Kingdom government has rolled out a new knife‑crime prevention campaign across parts of London, warning offenders that police operations will be stepped up with metal detection, live facial‑recognition technology and extra patrols.

Launched on Monday, 2 November 2026, the campaign – branded “No Place for Knives” – began in the Westminster and Croydon boroughs. Police officers will deploy handheld metal detectors at key hotspots, while cameras equipped with real‑time facial‑recognition software will scan crowds for known offenders.

In addition to the technology, the campaign will see a rise in foot and bicycle patrols. Officers will ride electric bikes through high‑risk areas to increase visibility and respond more quickly to incidents.

London has long struggled with knife crime, prompting a series of measures over the past decade. The new initiative follows earlier efforts such as the 2018 “Knife Crime Prevention Programme” and the 2022 “Community Safety Initiative.”

Government officials say the combined use of detection, recognition and patrols aims to deter knife‑related offences and protect residents and visitors alike. The “No Place for Knives” campaign is part of a broader strategy to reduce violent crime in the capital.
