Tyson Fury has warned that the highly anticipated “Battle of Britain” heavyweight clash with fellow former world champion Anthony Joshua could collapse because of a dispute between rival promoters. The bout, slated for 11 December at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and set to be broadcast on Netflix, has been billed as potentially the most lucrative fight in British boxing history.
The fight was confirmed on Thursday after months of negotiations, with Saudi Arabian boxing entrepreneur Turki Alalshikh announcing the venue and date. Alalshikh’s company The Ring is partnering with UFC president Dana White to promote the event.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has objected to White’s involvement, claiming it breaches existing contracts. Speaking to IFL TV, Hearn said “Dana White cannot be involved with this fight promotion” and suggested that Netflix had not been informed of the arrangement.
Fury responded on Instagram with an expletive‑filled post, accusing Joshua and Hearn of trying to pull out of the fight and attributing the issue to “Eddie Hearn’s ego.” He described Hearn’s actions as costing “the biggest fight in boxing history.”
Both fighters have recent victories: Fury, 38, stopped Mariusz Wach in Thailand in July, while Joshua, 36, defeated Kristian Prenga after surviving two first‑round knockdowns two months earlier. Both men have previously lost to Oleksandr Usyk in world‑title bouts.
Organisers have indicated the bout may be scheduled for the early hours of the UK morning to accommodate television audiences in the United States.
If the promoter row is not resolved, the December 11 showdown could be jeopardised, despite its potential to generate significant revenue and capture global boxing interest.
