Two men were arrested in Adamawa State on Friday for allegedly stealing eight underground irrigation water pipes, valued at about N3 million, from the farm of the late elder statesman Bamanga Tukur. The arrests came less than a week after Tukur, a former governor of the former Gongola State, died.
According to Adamawa State Police Command spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspects are 45‑year‑old Ibrahim Mohammed of Wauro Jabbe and 28‑year‑old Jemilu Yahaya, a scavenger from Jambutu Bypass. They were taken into custody by operatives attached to the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola following “credible intelligence.”
“The suspects, 45‑year‑old Ibrahim Mohammed of Wauro Jabbe and 28‑year‑old Jemilu Yahaya (a scavenger from Jambutu Bypass), were arrested by operatives attached to the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola following credible intelligence,” Nguroje said.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Mohammed allegedly stole the irrigation pipes and sold them to Yahaya. Police recovered one Carry‑go motorcycle along with the stolen pipes after the arrests.
The two men remain in police custody while the investigation continues. Nguroje said they will be charged in court once the inquiry is completed.
