Former Sierra Leone international Michael Lahoud slammed Galatasaray striker Rafael Leao after the Turkish club suffered a 4‑0 defeat to Trabzonspor on Sunday. The loss, which featured a hat‑trick from Mohamed Salah, left Leao unable to make a significant impact on the pitch.
In a post‑match interview with CBS Sports Golazo, Lahoud described Leao’s display as “unacceptable,” noting that the former AC Milan star appeared to lack passion during the encounter. “There is one player who epitomised the lack of passion, it’s Rafael Leao,” Lahoud said. “How much does he make again, €288,000 a week? To put in that sort of performance is unacceptable.”
Leao was reportedly outplayed by 22‑year‑old Portuguese Under‑21 international Noah Saviola, who was also a standout in the match. Lahoud added that the big club’s star seemed “to be sitting there on vacation” and that the game could be a turning point for Leao’s career.
“Leao needs to wake up today because football could be very unforgiving. This could be one of his last chances to revitalize his career,” Lahoud said.
The criticism comes as Galatasaray seeks to recover from a heavy defeat, while Trabzonspor capitalised on the opportunity to secure a decisive victory in the Turkish league.
