- The U.S. government on Friday granted Anthropic permission to release its Mythos 5 model to a group of companies and federal agencies, according to reports.
- The decision marks a major step forward in the negotiations between the Trump administration and the AI company.
- Anthropic disabled access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models to comply with an export control directive from the government that cited "national security authorities."
The decision marks a major step forward in the negotiations between the Trump administration and the
artificial intelligence company, which have been engaged in a two-week-long standoff over its latest models.
Representatives for Anthropic and the White House didn't immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
Anthropic said earlier this month that it disabled access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models to comply with an export control directive from the government that cited "
national security authorities." The company said it was instructed to suspend all access "by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees."
Senior Anthropic staffers
flew to Washington D.C. to meet with members of the Trump administration to try to find a way to bring the models back online. The company told CNBC earlier this month that both parties were "working quickly to get this resolved."
"Since the issuance of my June 12 letter, Anthropic has worked with the U.S. government to address risks associated with the Covered Models," U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reportedly said in a letter to Anthropic.
