In a coordinated effort under Operation Fansan Yamma, Nigerian Army troops rescued seven kidnapped individuals in Katsina State and recovered a large herd of cattle in Sokoto State on 22 September 2026.
The rescue took place on the Daye–Malumfashi Road in Danmusa Local Government Area after a distress call was received the evening of 21 September about an attack on a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina. Troops from Sector 2 of the operation arrived swiftly, forced the attackers to abandon their victims and flee, and secured the seven people unhurt.
Among the rescued were six female students from the Federal University of Dutsin‑Ma and one male commercial driver. They were screened for security purposes, received medical attention, and were handed over to the relevant authorities for reunification with their families and school officials.
In a separate action, soldiers from the same sector intercepted a terrorist group in Asarara Kaura community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The attackers had been stealing livestock and terrorising residents. Troops blocked the escape route and engaged the attackers along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi Road, resulting in a gun battle. The terrorists fled into nearby bushes, some reportedly wounded, leaving the cattle behind.
The successful intervention brought overwhelming relief and jubilation to the residents of the Asarara Kaura community and surrounding areas, who turned out in large numbers to applaud the troops for their bravery and prompt response in safeguarding their lives and livelihood.
The recovered cattle are currently held in military custody while arrangements are being made to return them to their rightful owners.
