Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North West’s Operation Fansan Yamma arrested three suspected terrorist logistics couriers and rescued 14 kidnapping victims in separate actions in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday, 24 September, and Friday, 25 September.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for Operation Yamma, Sector 2 troops intercepted three suspects travelling on a motorcycle on 24 September. Preliminary interrogation indicated the men were carrying ₦2.7 million – believed to be ransom money – and three mobile phones intended for transfer to a terrorist kingpin through local intermediaries.
“The suspects and the recovered items are in military custody for further investigation,” the JTF spokesman said.
The following day, acting on credible intelligence, Sector 2 set up an ambush in the same area. The engagement forced the terrorists to flee, allowing troops to recover an AK‑47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
In a related operation on 25 September, a routine patrol intercepted and rescued 14 abducted civilians – 12 men and 2 women – who had been taken from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki villages. The victims were reportedly abandoned by their captors when the troops arrived and were handed over to Faskari local authorities for further action.
Danja said the operations demonstrate “the commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to protecting the lives and property of citizens, rescuing persons held in terrorist captivity and denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.” The Theatre Command praised the troops for their vigilance, courage and prompt response, and urged the public to continue providing timely, credible information on suspicious activities.
