Ibrahim told local media that the country’s diplomatic engagements continued unabated despite the president’s physical non‑attendance, and that Nigeria’s positions on key issues were still articulated through its permanent mission in New York.
The envoy emphasized that the nation’s contributions to discussions on peace, security and development were conveyed by senior officials and that the president’s schedule did not impede the country’s ability to influence outcomes.
The UN General Assembly, held annually in New York, provides a platform for all member states to present their policies and negotiate resolutions. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, routinely uses the forum to advance its interests on topics ranging from economic development to regional stability.
By underscoring the continuity of Nigeria’s diplomatic work, Ibrahim aimed to reassure both domestic and international audiences that the country’s voice remained strong at the United Nations despite President Tinubu’s absence.
