Lawmakers in Nigeria have urged the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives to disclose whether President Bola Tinubu has transmitted the constitutionally required vacation declaration. They argue that the National Assembly must act if no such declaration is received within 21 days.
The call follows concerns that the president’s extended absence may be in breach of the constitution, which mandates a formal declaration of any presidential vacation.
Lawmakers contend that the National Assembly has a duty to ensure compliance with constitutional provisions, and that the lack of a declaration could undermine governance and accountability.
They emphasised that the 21‑day deadline is a clear constitutional requirement and urged the Senate and House leadership to provide the information promptly.
To date, the Senate and House leadership have not publicly responded to the request, leaving the next steps for the National Assembly uncertain.
