The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has accused President Bola Tinubu of abdication, alleging that he has handed control of the administration to a cabal of family members, principal aides and other unelected persons. The claim was made in a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, who said the president has failed to demonstrate the capacity required for effective leadership.
Yusuf said the opposition party believes Tinubu runs a “lethargic administration” and is “most of the time absent from the theater of governance.” He added that the president’s repeated absences at meetings of world leaders, particularly the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), underscore an inability to represent Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.
The APM further alleged that Tinubu prefers to holiday abroad at taxpayers’ expense while critical matters of state are left to a cabal of aides and family members. The party also claimed that the president has never visited communities ravaged by terrorism, kidnapping or banditry, nor has he met directly with grieving families or victims.
According to the statement, Tinubu has never, as Commander‑in‑Chief, demonstrated a commitment to lead from the front on security matters. The APM said that when attacks occur, the president’s response is limited to issuing statements, giving directives or dispatching delegations, rather than making on‑the‑ground visits himself.
The party’s remarks also cited a reported killing of over 600,000 Nigerians and the abduction of many more by terrorist elements in the last three years, arguing that Tinubu’s languid approach to insecurity emboldens terrorists, bandits and kidnappers.
