Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has issued a warning against comparing one’s life to that of others, arguing that individuals often covet the wealth, fame, or relationships of others without understanding the underlying struggles involved.

In a recent social media post, Agu outlined what he described as the ironies of life, highlighting the contradictory desires of people in different circumstances. He noted that while the poor seek money, the rich often desire peace, and the young wish to grow up while the elderly wish to be young again.

“The poor wants money, while the rich want peace. The young want to grow up, while the old wish they could be young again. Those who have little want more, while those who have much, sometimes wish they needed less,” Agu wrote.

The actor further illustrated these paradoxes by contrasting the desires of the employed and unemployed, as well as the single and married. He observed that the married long for freedom while the single long for love, and those who are unknown crave fame while the famous seek privacy.

Agu cautioned against judging one’s life based on another person’s public image or possessions, emphasizing that private struggles are often invisible to outsiders. He used the metaphor of the grass being greener on the other side until one discovers the cost of keeping it green, noting that someone may possess the money another desires but lack the peace they enjoy.

“A healthy person has a thousand wishes but a sick person has only one,” he added. Agu concluded by urging people to appreciate their own journeys and current blessings rather than focusing on what they lack, stating, “The truth is you can’t have it all, be happy with what you have and never take anything for granted.”
