During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the United States announced that it would allow only the State of Israel to speak on the Palestinian issue, effectively silencing the Palestinian State’s voice on the UN podium.
The General Assembly is the UN’s principal forum for all member states, where each country is entitled to speak and present its positions. In principle, no single nation can prevent another from using the platform.
However, the US decision to exclude the Palestinian delegation from speaking on the matter has drawn criticism from observers who see it as a departure from the Assembly’s inclusive ethos.
