Tell him he’s lying about tithe, by Fada Oluoma

In a recent editorial published by Vanguard News, Fada Oluoma questioned the link between tithing and financial prosperity claimed by a local pastor. The author, who has attended the church for 20 years, notes that despite regular tithes and other financial contributions, his own finances have not experienced the dramatic growth he expected.

Oluoma criticises the pastor’s repeated Sunday sermons that present tithing as a guaranteed path to wealth. He points to the pastor’s luxurious lifestyle—his mansion and exotic cars—as evidence of prosperity, yet highlights that the pastor has no publicly known business ventures to explain such wealth.

“Tithing is a voluntary way of supporting the church, not a supernatural ticket to riches,” the author wrote. He argues that the financial benefits promised by some preachers are misleading, and that many faithful believers continue to give out of commitment rather than expectation of wealth.

Despite his own long‑standing practice of tithing, Oluoma has seen no comparable breakthrough. He urges readers to confront the pastor about the alleged lies and to focus on tithing as a spiritual duty rather than a means of personal gain.

Oluoma concludes that even those who continue to tithe in his small church do so because of their faith, not because they expect miraculous wealth. He encourages believers to question the narrative that tithing guarantees prosperity and to rely on God’s judgment for any blessings that may come.
