Syria is reportedly weighing whether to join a defence pact that currently links Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, the country’s foreign minister said.
The alliance, which has been referred to in regional circles as the Mecca defence pact, was established to coordinate security and defence interests among its members.
In a statement, the foreign minister said Damascus is evaluating the possibility of joining the pact, but no decision has yet been taken.
The pact has been a topic of discussion in Middle Eastern security circles, with member states seeking to strengthen cooperation against common threats.
No further details have been released, and the foreign minister did not provide a timeline for when a decision might be made.
