Delta State Commissioner of Police CP Samuel Etaifo Erale confirmed that the suspect arrested for allegedly defiling and raping a 15‑year‑old girl is not a police officer. The statement was sent to a Daily Post correspondent in Warri via WhatsApp.
Operatives from the Effurun Area Command in Uvwie Local Government Area apprehended the suspect, a fake Mobile Policeman, while he was on guard duty at a private school near Regal Clinic on Jakpa Road in Effurun.
According to the police, the suspect repeatedly molested the girl whenever she came to school and when she was about to leave, threatening to kill her if she reported the abuse to anyone, including her parents.
The matter came to light when the victim confided in a friend, who then informed her parents. The father subsequently alerted the authorities.
CP Erale said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a proper investigation.
Warri‑based human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe called for a transparent inquiry and urged that the suspect face the full wrath of the law. He also questioned how the individual obtained arms and police uniforms.
“Information available to me is that he isn’t a real police officer,” said Joe on his Facebook timeline.
