At least six artisanal miners were killed and dozens more injured when four mining shafts collapsed at the Oni El Dakkan mine in the Jebeit Minerals locality of Sudan’s Red Sea state, local reports said.
The incident occurred in the El Ansari Market area, a mining hub in the region. Radio Dabanga received statements from miners who said the injured were transported from the mine to Port Sudan, a distance of roughly 300 km.
Authorities have not yet released a detailed investigation into the collapse, but the tragedy highlights the risks faced by small‑scale miners operating in the area’s fragile infrastructure.
Sudan’s Red Sea state is known for its mineral deposits, and artisanal mining remains a major source of livelihood for many local communities.
