SpaceX’s Starship rocket lifted off from Texas in a historic test flight that marked the vehicle’s first attempt to reach orbit. The uncrewed launch was the 14th time the Super Heavy‑Starship stack has taken to the sky, but it is the first time the system is being pushed beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.
SpaceX has described Starship as a cornerstone of its commercial ambitions and a critical element of NASA’s plans to land astronauts on the Moon. The new test flight will help the company refine the vehicle’s performance and gather data needed for future crewed missions.
Although the launch was a milestone, the rocket did not yet achieve a stable orbit. Engineers will analyze the flight data to determine what adjustments are required before the next orbital attempt.
