A Nigerian preacher has issued a stark warning to Christians, urging them to distance themselves from the corrupt practices of the biblical figures Hophni and Phinehas. In his sermon, titled “Sons of perdition: Rescuing the Hophni and Phinehas generation,” Ayo Akerele cautions that God will judge both leaders and followers independently.
Akerele calls for a deliberate break from “all forms of dishonesty, turn away from sexual immorality, and reject the values of a fallen world system.” He stresses that believers must “return fully to Christ,” recognising that a genuine walk with God is essential for spiritual integrity.
Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of the high priest Aaron, are remembered in the Old Testament for their moral failings and abuse of religious office. By invoking their names, Akerele highlights the dangers of compromising faith for worldly gain.
