Matt Brittin, the director‑general of the BBC, warned that the broadcaster’s financial position could force the closure of some of its television channels and radio stations.
In a statement released by the BBC, Brittin said the organisation’s finances “may well mean” that certain services may have to shut down, citing the ongoing pressure on the licence‑fee‑funded broadcaster.
The BBC, which has long provided a wide range of TV and radio content across the UK, is facing a challenging funding environment as licence‑fee revenue has slipped and operating costs have risen.
While the director‑general did not identify which channels or stations might be affected, he said the BBC would review its options and consult with stakeholders before making any decisions.
“The BBC’s financial situation may well mean that some channels and stations close,” said Matt Brittin.
