The Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Local Governments on Thursday praised Kebbe Local Government Area for its commitment to financial transparency and prudent management of public resources.
The statement, issued in Sokoto by Kebbe’s Secretary of Local Government, Hon. Shamsudeen Umar Maiakwai, followed an official engagement between the council and the Assembly Committee at the Mini Chamber of the House of Assembly.
“Our engagement with Kebbe Local Government has reinforced the critical importance of transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources. Proper financial administration is not merely an administrative requirement; it is a fundamental obligation to the people whose resources government holds in trust,” the committee said.
The committee also acknowledged Kebbe’s “continued commitment to due process, proper financial documentation, accountability and compliance with established laws, regulations and financial procedures.” It added that such standards “protect public resources and strengthen confidence in local governance.”
Emphasising the need for consistent financial discipline, the committee urged the council to “sustain and further strengthen these standards,” noting that the progress “provides a positive institutional example that other local governments can emulate.”
“Legislative oversight remains vital in ensuring that public institutions operate within the framework of extant laws and regulations,” the committee added. “Every public resource must be properly accounted for, while every expenditure should be supported by appropriate documentation and due process.”
In response, the Kebbe Local Government administration reaffirmed its commitment to “transparency, financial discipline, proper record‑keeping and continuous improvement in public service delivery,” and pledged to manage resources responsibly for the benefit of the people.
