Alhaji Umar Salah, the former Director‑General of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday, September 26, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Sokoto State Government House.
Salah was welcomed into the APC by Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), with the support of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ladan Ala.
Prior to his defection, Salah met with Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Government House in Sokoto. Explaining his decision, he said the governor’s development projects had convinced him to “rally around the Governor and support his administration,” adding that “Governor Ahmed Aliyu had done a lot for the state through the execution of various developmental projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the citizenry.”
Salah pledged full support to the governor and promised that his followers would back the APC in the lead‑up to the 2027 general elections. Receiving him, Tambuwal assured that Salah would receive “equal treatment among party members,” emphasizing that “there was no discrimination within the APC.”
The statement also noted that the ADC has recorded the defection of several prominent members across all 23 local government areas of Sokoto State, highlighting a broader shift of political allegiance within the region.
